You must be a club member to register for any class.
Pre-registration is required for all classes.


CLASS REGISTRATION PROCEDURE


Walk-in registration is available for about a month prior to the start of all scheduled classes. Just go to the computer club anytime it is open, select a class binder, take the top class registration slip, fill out requested information on the top registration envelope, insert a $5.00 check or exact change into the envelope and give the envelope to the monitor. Class registration binders are available approximately one month prior to class start dates.


Students need a USB flash drive for most classes. Bring your own USB flash drive, or you can buy a USB flash drive at the club.


There is a flat fee of $5.00 for each class. A class may include one or more class sessions.

You should arrive on time for your class, as all sessions begin on time. Lessons are presented in a progressive order. If a hands-on class is missed, it may not be possible for you to continue the class as hands-on.

Description of Computer Classes


For all courses other than the basic Computing 101 it is recommended that the member have skills in the following:
- Use of Computer keyboard.
- Selecting commands with a mouse.
- Opening of APPs/Programs.
- Saving materials to the computer and to an external storage (Flash Drive).
- Basic word processing.

This is a start-at-the-beginning class taught using Window 10 PCs. It will provide a solid foundation for using a Windows PC which will equip you to better use your home computer as well as prepare you for other classes offered at the Computer Club.
File Explorer-Win 10/11

This class is designed for those with at least minimal exposure to Windows 11 (or a recent version of Windows) but want to know more details about how to manage the storage and retrieval of files, and how to organize them using Windows’ powerful File Explorer. The class includes understanding "This PC" with all of its built-in system folders. Practical hands-on work creating folders and sub-folders; copying and moving files between storage devices and folders; customizing the contents view of a folder; assigning the type of data stored in a folder; using the Recycle Bin; and more.

Word I

The basics of word processing using the Microsoft Word program; creating, saving and printing documents; formatting documents (including aligning and enhancing text, use of various fonts). Word 2007/2010 can be used on Win XP, Vista and Win 7/8/10 computers.
Word II

Intermediate word processing, using the more advanced features of the Microsoft Word program, such as columns, tables, breaks, page numbering, headers and footers, clip art and pictures. Word 2007/2010 can be used on Win XP, Vista and Win 7/8/10 computers.
LibreOffice Writer

Three two-and-a-half-hour sessions
LibreOffice is a free program that is compatible with Microsoft Office and has the additional components of spread sheet, word processor and presentation graphics except it is a free program. In the LibreWriter class you will learn more than just word processing. In it we will set different kinds of tabs, and also use leader tabs. Use of a table will also be taught as well as a table sort. Using a basic label and inserting a graphic in it and copying and pasting it so you can have a whole sheet of address labels with different graphics depending on the season or sport you enjoy. Using fields for automatically numbering pages and total pages will also be used. Animated graphics are also a special feature in this program that can be inserted in E-mail, but do not automate if used in MS Word. The program will be supplied in the class along with the files we will work with.

Introduction to spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. You will learn about cells, data values and beginning formulas (functions). Learn how you can record home expenses and have at your disposal all individual totals of each expense category. Other helpful features learned will be copying and pasting data, filling series, replicating, shading certain cells and enhancing your project with borders.

With Online Excel, you can create and edit spreadsheets right in your web browser. Any browser! There's no need to purchase and install special software. It's free to use and make your own. You will learn about cells, data values and beginning functions. Discover how to crunch numbers like a pro. You don't even need your own computer. Work from anywhere!

This course opens with a review of materials covered in Excel I. Throughout the course emphasis is placed on the most efficient layout of sheets and workbooks to enable the user to enter and retrieve information easily. Exercises include designing page layouts with appropriate page breaks, repeat of page headers, multiple worksheets and various formats. In addition, absolute/relative cell designation, basic functions and IF functions will be used to enable development of practical worksheets. Sheet management will include hiding/unhiding rows/columns, filtering, cell protection and freezing panes. MS Word will be accessed to enable label making.

This Spreadsheets class will use Microsoft Excel 2010. During the first part of this class students will learn about:
 • Cells, values, formulas, and functions
 • Ways to use spreadsheets for things other than accounting or bookkeeping such as automatic row & column formulas like sum, average, max, min, & count
 • Adding rows, columns, and text formatting
 • Freezing panes, special characters, page breaks, headers, footers, replicating, sorting & borders

The first part of this course takes 1½ class days and will give students a good working knowledge of using spreadsheets.
The second 1½ days of this class concentrates on:
 • Basic formula construction
 • Sheet management
 • Hiding & unhiding rows and columns

This class will not use the online version of Excel; however, students may use the online version at home. The online version does not have all the features of the purchased version of Microsoft 365.
The LibreOffice suite of spreadsheet, word processing, presentation slides, drawing, and math formula editing software is available free online. It can be found on the Downloads page of our club website from the navigation box at the top of each page.
Graphics in Word

Four two-hour sessions
This course introduces the student to the use of Microsoft Word features to draw a variety of shapes and change their appearance through filling with color, texture, pattern, or a picture. Further, you will learn to: Add text to an object using text boxes and Word Art, change relationships of objects using ordering and grouping techniques, insert pictures into letters or other documents and modify pictures using the Paint program.
PowerPoint I

The PowerPoint program will allow you to make slide presentations and choose from various options to determine how you want your slides to be shown. Although this program can be used for setting up business presentations, our main project in learning the features will involve your setting up an album with your favorite pictures from home, and showing them on the computer screen with captions, movement and other enhancing features. PowerPoint is a great way to save all your favorite memories for future viewing.

Adobe Photoshop Elements

Four two-hour sessions
Learn how to edit your photos to make them look their best. The class will look at the editing tools and panels in Elements as well as the Organizer. Lighten, brighten, straighten, re-colorize, blue up skies, remove or add objects, erase spots and wrinkles, fix red eyes, open closed eyes, selection tools and the power of layers are some of the things that may be covered as time allows.
Please Note: Twelve club computers with the 2018 version of Adobe Photoshop Elements will be available and twelve additional members can bring their own laptop pre-loaded with their version of the program. When registering for the class, please fill out the correct registration slip designated for your choice of club computer or your laptop.
Bring a flash drive.
