Windows Computing 101
Overview of the Class
This class is designed for individuals who have little to no computer experience and are interested in learning the basics of computer usage. The focus is on using Windows’ File Explorer to manage and organize files effectively.
Class Structure.
Students use in-class computers to ensure everyone has the same files while learning. Students save class progress to USB memory sticks that the student provides.
Topics Covered:
Understanding “This PC”: Participants will learn about the built-in system folders and their functions.
Hands-On Practice: The class includes practical exercises such as:
- Creating folders and sub-folders.
- Copying and moving files between different storage devices and folders.
- Customizing folder views to suit individual needs.
- Assigning data types to folders for better organization.
- Utilizing the Recycle Bin for file recovery.
This class aims to provide a solid foundation in basic computer skills, enabling participants to navigate the digital world with greater confidence and efficiency. The hands-on practice sessions will ensure that participants get the practical experience they need to feel more comfortable using a computer.
Note: This class does not require any prior computer knowledge. It is designed to help every learner get the practice they need to feel more comfortable with technology.
(3) 2-hour sessions
File Explorer-Win 10/11
This class is designed for those with at least minimal exposure to Windows
11 (or a recent version of Windows) but want to know more details about
how to manage the storage and retrieval of files, and how to organize them
using Windows’ powerful File Explorer. The class includes “This PC” with all
of its built-in system folders. Practical hands-on work creating folders and
sub-folders; copying and moving files between storage devices and folders;
customizing the contents view of a folder; assigning the type of data stored
in a folder; using the Recycle Bin; and more.
(3) 2-hour sessions
USING WORD 1
The basics of word processing using the Microsoft Word program; creating,
saving, and printing documents; formatting documents (including aligning
and enhancing text, use of various fonts). Word 2007/2010 can be used on
Win XP, Vista and Win 7/8/10 computers.

USING EXCEL 1
Introduction to spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. You will learn about cells,
data values and beginning formulas (functions). Learn how you can record
home expenses and have at your disposal all individual totals of each expense
category. Other helpful features learned will be copying and pasting data,
filling series, replicating, shading certain cells and enhancing your project
with borders.
On-Line description:
With Online Excel, you can create and edit spreadsheets right in your web
browser. Any browser! There’s no need to purchase and install special
software. It’s free to use and make your own. You will learn about cells, data
values and beginning functions. Discover how to crunch numbers like a pro.
You don’t even need your own computer. Work from anywhere!

3D Printing for Beginners
Come learn what 3D printing is all about, and how to use the Computer Club 3D printers!
This 2-hour workshop will help you get started on your 3D printing journey, Topics include:
* Introduction to how 3D printers work
* Description of our club 3D printers
* Where to find ready-to-print models on the internet, including tons of free models
* How to prepare your model for printing
* How to print using our club 3D printers
* Rules for using the club 3D printers

NOTE: This class does NOT teach how to design your own 3D models. For that, attend the “Designing Your Own 3D Print Models” course periodically offered here at the club.

Designing Your Own 3D Print Models
NOTE: For this session, having a Tinkercad account is very helpful but not required:

If you have an account, you will be able to follow along with the examples taught in class.
Come learn how to design your own 3D-printable models This 3-hour workshop will give you a basic ability to create your own models
using a simple web-based graphical building-block tool called Tinkercad. Topics include:
* Demonstration of Tinkercad capabilities you can use to design your own 3D-printable models
* Designing for successful prints
* Causes of failed prints and how to avoid them
* Saving time by doing partial print test runs

NOTE: This class does NOT teach how to print 3D models using our club printers. For that, attend the “3D Printing for Beginners” course periodically offered here at the club.

Classes are usually 3-day sessions of 2 hours each. All classes are $5.00 regardless of the number of sessions.
Students use CCSC computers for most classes.
NOTE:: Classes are for Computer Club Members only. You must enroll at the Club.
All Classes require a USB flash drive. (Flash drives are sold at the Club if you do not have one.)
